Conveniently, the walk and run animations happen to have the same number of frames as the normal humanoid walking and running animations. I unpacked the game’s assets and used GIMP to take the frames from the Poptop spritesheet and put them in the correct spots on a blank pants file to make it look like you’re walking around as a Poptop.

This mod is a creative use of a tool made by SilverFeelin that creates custom, animated pants from an image file. It’s actually 100% vanilla-friendly, but it requires some fancy item spawning and a tiny bit of do-it-yourself tech modification to work. If you happen to play on a vanilla server, maybe shoot me another ask/DM and I can just drop by and give you a copy of what I use.

You can accomplish this by just running the pants generator with a blank image and changing the slot in the json output from legs to chest so that it equips to the right spot. The combination of the Frogg Head hiding your body and your costume slot being an item with no image effectively means only your pants are visible, and your pants are your poptop. (At the time this guide was written I thought that the property assigned to the Frogg Head needed to be attached to your costume armor, but it turns out that Starbound is just hardcoded to only recognize the Frogg Head for body hiding.) To prevent your armor from showing, I’m using a blank image assigned to a costume item with directives in the chest slot. The poptop mod uses the Frogg Head because that particular item causes your body and head to be hidden.
